MOLE NATIONAL PARK

Mole National Park is the largest and oldest national park in Ghana, located in the northern part of the country, near the town of Damongo. The park covers an area of about 4,840 square kilometers (1,870 square miles) and is managed by the Ghana Wildlife Division.

The park is known for its diverse wildlife and savannah landscape, making it a popular destination for wildlife enthusiasts and eco-tourists. Some of the prominent animals that can be found in Mole National Park include elephants, antelopes (such as kob and hartebeest), warthogs, baboons, monkeys, and various bird species. It is also home to predators like lions, leopards, and hyenas, although sightings of these carnivores are rarer.

NEARBY ATTRACTIONS

  1. Waterfall: The spectacular Konkori waterfalls is located about 100km north-east of the park headquarters. However, access to it is challenging and currently reserved for those out for adventure.
  2. Slave Caves: A number of caves located in the park are said to have served as hiding places for indigenes who fled the raid of the two notorious slave raiders; Samori and Babatu who used the current park headquarters location as their base during the of slave trade.
