Cape Coast Castle is a historical landmark located in Cape Coast, a coastal city in the Central Region of Ghana. It is one of several “slave castles” or forts built along the Ghanaian coast during the colonial era.
Inside the castle, there were dungeons where enslaved Africans were kept in appalling conditions before being forced onto slave ships. The “Door of No Return” is a famous feature of Cape Coast Castle, which is believed to be the last place through which enslaved Africans passed before being taken to the Americas, never to return to their homeland.
