Black Star Square, also known as Independence Square, is a significant landmark located in Accra, the capital city of Ghana. It holds historical and cultural importance as it was the venue for Ghana’s independence declaration from British colonial rule on March 6, 1957.
The square was originally named “Black Star Square” in reference to the black star on Ghana’s national flag, symbolizing African freedom and unity. After Ghana gained independence, the name was changed to “Independence Square” to commemorate the event.
